When I was a kid my sister and I would spend a week of our summer vacation at my grandparents in Saxonburg, Pennsylvania. My Gramma would make these sandwiches for lunch.
Jump to RecipeThese are quick and easy to make using chipped, chopped ham. If you are unfamiliar with this Pittsburgese term just ask the folks at the meat counter that you want chopped ham cut as thin as they can make it. I love to serve these on Sweet Hawaiian hamburger buns grilled with butter. You can top them with anything you like, I like mine plain but with pickles!
To make frizzled ham simply put chipped chopped ham in a skillet and fry over medium heat until brown. I use 5-6 slices of ham for one sandwich, depending on how thick it is cut.
When it looks like this, it’s done! Drain on paper towels and blot to remove some of the grease. Put the ham on a grilled bun and top with whatever you like.
Enjoy!
